Annual Internships Event: Wednesday 25 October, 4:30 PM in FAB0.03
Join us to learn more about internships, CV guidelines, top tips for the application process, activities during it, and securing a grad role. All from a panel of students who have secured numerous internship experiences. Come and ask any questions. This event is a follow-up to the Spring Week event, so it'd be a notch better and more suitable for students in all years!Macquarie Case Study: Come join us at our event on the 26th of October with the Macquarie Group as they discuss a Case Study and Presentation run by their Market Risk Team. The event will take place from 17:00 to 18:00 via Zoom.
Data Science Opportunities:
Marketing Lead x1 - Manage the society's social media pages, create marketing campaigns for the different activities using Canva aiming to increase the reach and engagement
Podcast Lead x1 - Oversee the DataBasic Podcast by sourcing speakers, working with the team to create then promoting and expanding the reach
Video editors/creators x2 - Co-create and edit the DataBasic Podcast; Promote society's activities in creative ways using the short video format
Hackathon Lead x1 - Organise a real-world application competition in terms 1 and 2 in collaboration with a different society and together with departments/companies (good data science knowledge required)
Fresher's Reps - Be interested in Data Science by having some prior understanding; will be assigned to 1 or 2 of the teams (Research, Education, Hackathon, Events, Tech, Podcast, Marketing/Content Creation, Outreach) and will support it in achieving their goals while learning and developing themselves (please list a top 3 preference)
WDSS Research Program
As part of our Term 1 Program, researchers will be grouped and tasked to look into a broad topic in Statistics, Probability, or Machine Learning. At the end of the project, we will publish your code and research article on our blog.
This term, we seek curious and dedicated individuals who want to get their hands dirty with data science. This is a totally new opportunity we are now looking for supportive and dedicated individuals who wish to supervise students through these projects as well!

Jane Street European Virtual Estimathon!
Monday 6th November @ 5pm - 6:30pm GMT (6pm - 7:30pm CET) Virtual via Zoom
Do you know how many computers were connected to the Internet on 1 January, 1989? Or how many YouTube videos have more than 1 billion views? What about the bandwidth beneath the Atlantic Ocean? If you want to solve problems like these, join us at our upcoming virtual Estimathon - a team based contest that combines trivia, game theory and mathematical thinking. Participants will be placed in teams of 4 to 6 that will be tasked with solving 13 estimathon problems in just 30 minutes. After the Estimathon concludes, join us for a Q&A session with Jane Street traders, software engineers and recruiters to learn more about our firm's work and opportunities.
